Leader Intelligence

In the airline industry, turbulence is a fact of life. They aren’t trying to get rid of it, but rather, they train pilots to safely adjust to it. Notice I said adjust rather than adapt, because adapt implies a sort of status quo, whereas adjustment implies gradual changes based on the operational environment. The key to even greater and increasing individual and organizational success is adjustment to the operational environment. To do this, we need to develop and hone our leader intelligence (LI).

Leadership intelligence enables one to understand the current barriers to our success in real time. For example, several tech companies have begun manufacturing chips in the U.S. after the President announced that doing so was a strategic priority. Or a more contrarian example might be realizing that no succession planning might be better than a plan to designate someone to take over years from now in an operational environment that has completely changed. Leader intelligence enables individuals and organizations to remain relevant regardless of the current situation because they have their seatbelts on and are prepared to handle the inherent turbulence of the operational environment.
